MarSal Origination L.L.C. (MarSal) was formed in 2003 combining the unique talents of two highly skilled artisans, Mark Erickson and Sally Miller.
Mark Erickson, a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design. (R.I.S.D) in 1984, has evolved and developed his artistic interpretations and expression in all facets of hand worked and visual design such as jewelry, glass, ceramics, woodworking, photography, painting and drawing.
Mark's artistic taste has been developed from childhood through exposure to cultures in the Far East, Middle East and Europe. As early as 14, he studied figure drawing with a well known Canadian artist, Peter Corbett, and later, under H. Dittman, a well-known graphic artist in Frankfurt, Germany. He was also exposed to the Burin work of Jif Tribouilloy in Paris, France.
Mark is capable of doing custom work from the design stage to the fabricated completion of finished works utilizing a variety of materials such as gold, silver, bronze, brass and copper, as well as precious and semiprecious gems and many others.
Sally’s art career started at an early age. She is a self-taught artist whose natural talent was enhanced by private art instruction from Mrs. Engle, a well-known local artist. While in her early teens, she began selling her paintings and also donated her talent and work to a non-profit organization as well as illustrating for established commercial enterprises such as JC Penny and Dollar rent a car.
Sally was the illustrator in a medical book that was innovative and on the cutting edge. Her talent in photography led her to design, photograph, and publish a calendar, and her accomplishments also included working with Father Wilson to design and layout a museum style exhibition at St. Paul's Catholic church. Sally is skilled in drawing, sculpting, woodworking, metal-smithing, jewelry making and glasswork.
MarSal Origination was formed when Sally met Mark at the Gulf Coast Museum of Art. With Sally’s talent and desire to do large format art, their compatible design sense and technical ability, a collaboration was inevitable. Their combined talents in many different mediums, along with their various viewpoints as individual artists allows them to come together to conceive, design and complete a wide range of original artistic works.
Mark & Sally (MarSal) are currently actively involved in many aspects of the renovation of Temple David in Old Hyde Park. They designed, created, and installed the glass, tile, marble, and bronze mosaic displayed in front of the Temple which depicts the Exodus of the Jews from Egypt to the Promised Land along with a Judean garden as well as two interior 30 foot mosaics on either side of the sanctuary. Their designs include the casting of bronze letters of a Hebrew prayer to greet visitors and members alike in the foyer, along with many other modifications within and outside of the Temple.
Currently they are working closely with a talented young priest in the design and creation of a monstrance for a local Catholic church. The design incorporates the use of bronze, exotic woods, silver, and gemstones. Other designs of reliquary works are in progress as well, such as metalwork done for Christ the King Catholic church.
MarSal also works closely with local interior designers to provide custom-designed art for discriminating clientele.
